Is Your Grandma Dead?

This week has been unusual, to say the least. Several things have happened, but the most unusual happened last night. I arrived at my granddaughter's basketball game, and one of my other granddaughters had an urgent message. "You are dead!" I said, "What?" She said a boy in her fifth-grade class said that her grandma was dead, and that's why they didn't have school on Tuesday and Wednesday. (Extreme cold was the real reason!) My granddaughter said she told him it was not true because she had been with me yesterday. Finally, he believed her. Then he told her to tell me hi. This boy was a frequent flyer in my office when I was principal.

I know why he thought that. A woman, no relation to me, was killed in an automobile accident within our school district at the beginning of the week. Her first name was similar to mine, and she had the same last name. Earlier in the week, I had received three texts asking if it was me. No, not me. Not yet. I'm texting you back! It was a weird feeling. The people who thought it was me will be surprised to see me the next time I attend a school event!
